Trustees

Fraser Alexander headshot

Fraser has been a member of the Alumni Relations and Development team at the University of Auckland since 2006, where he leads the gifts in wills programme. Diagnosed with a retinal dystrophy in his teens and becoming a member of Blind Low Vision NZ in 1995, Fraser’s involvement with BLVNZ has included professional fundraising, volunteering and governance.

His background a bachelor’s degree in biosciences and a Postgraduate honours degree in business, 27 years’ experience in not-for-profit marketing, and a number of voluntary roles including: President of Retina New Zealand, member of the Retina International Management Committee, RNZFB Director, founding trustee of Sight Support Trust, director of Workbridge Foundation and Fellow of the Fundraising Institute of New Zealand.

Fraser offers patient perspectives that will help advance outcomes in eye health and vision care.

Sarah Berman head shot

Sarah is General Manager at Macular Degeneration New Zealand, having first joined MDNZ in 2015 as Fundraising Manager. Prior to this, Sarah worked for many years in leadership roles in the for-purpose sector, as well as commercial directorships and management in horticulture. Sarah is committed to advocating for access to quality healthcare and resources for all.

Chrissie is of Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāti Porou descent, and is Chief Executive of Kāpō Māori Aotearoa New Zealand Inc., a member-based society open to all people: disabled, able-bodied, Māori and Non-Māori. Chrissie is also a trustee of Access Matters Aotearoa.

Pippa is the General Manager at Glaucoma New Zealand and has a wealth of experience in the non-profit sector including roles with Auckland City Mission, Cure Kids and Harbour Hospice. GNZ's mission to save sight and eliminate blindness from glaucoma in New Zealand.

Andrea Midgen headshot - EHA Trustee

Andrea joined Blind Low Vision NZ in January 2024 as Chief Executive, bringing in-depth experience in organisational leadership & strategic development, financial acumen, and stakeholder management. Andrea’s leadership principles are ‘to be curious and to be kind, it is all about He tāngata He tāngata He tāngata.’

Andrea is a proven leader, with a wealth of CEO and senior executive experience in the not-for-profit and corporate sectors. Throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated a clear sense of vision, mission, and purpose.

Andrea served as Chief Executive Officer of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for seven years. During her tenure, she unified forty-two independent societies into ‘One SPCA,’ significantly improving animal welfare, income streams, fundraising initiatives, and growing sustainable income streams through the national expansion of Op Shops.

Before joining the SPCA, Andrea was Group Strategist and CFO for Southern Cross Group. Prior to her role with Southern Cross, she held various senior executive roles at Vodafone. At Vodafone, she culminated her career as Director of Customer Operations and gained valuable governance experience as Chair of the Vodafone New Zealand Foundation. Her earlier roles included Financial Controller and Executive Sponsor for a $500 million multi-year Australia/New Zealand system replacement.

Andrea’s career began in an accounts office while she pursued her Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification from Unitec Te Pūkenga. Her career and leadership journey included leading finance teams in New Zealand’s building insulation and road transport industries and England’s air cargo industry. Returning to New Zealand, Andrea joined Ericsson Cellular as GM Operations during the early days of mobile phones.

Outside of work, Andrea enjoys hiking, yoga, volunteering, reading, jigsaws, and spending time with her husband, son, family, and friends.

Justin Mora headshot

Dr Justin Mora is of Ngāi Tahu descent and is a highly experienced paediatric ophthalmologist and strabismus surgeon. He is a member of American Association of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and is involved with three ophthalmology special interest groups – Glaucoma, Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. He is the New Zealand representative on the International Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Council and does voluntary work teaching Ophthalmologists in South-East Asia.

Justin remains actively involved in training, holds an appointment as an Ophthalmology Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Auckland Medical School and has authored or co-authored over 25 publications. He divides his time between Auckland Eye and Greenlane Clinical Centre. Dr Justin Mora represents the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists on the Eye Health Aotearoa Trust Board.

John Mulka head shot

John is passionate about building organisational cultures which are defined by achievement and success. He has spent over 33 years in the not-for-profit/charitable sectors in both Canada and New Zealand. His most recent roles include Chief Executive Officer at Blind Low Vision NZ, Regional Vice President at CNIB Western Canada and Executive Lead with CNIB Guide Dogs. John is also a trustee of Access Matters Aotearoa.

Inhae Park head shot

Inhae is a Glaucoma (TPA) Optometrist at Capital & Coast District Health Board. She is a therapeutically qualified and glaucoma prescribing optometrist working at Wellington Regional Hospital. Inhae also serves as a Council Member with the New Zealand Association of Optometrists (NZAO).
