We advocate for all New Zealanders to have access to quality eye health and wellbeing services to prevent avoidable blindness and vision loss. Eye Health Aotearoa strives to drive evidence-based change so that New Zealanders get the eye care they need, when they need it. We collaborate to reduce vision loss and prevent avoidable blindness through awareness raising and advocacy campaigns

In September and October 2024, with support from the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), Eye Health Aotearoa (EHA) will run Aotearoa New Zealand’s first Children’s Eye Health Campaign. The aim is to increase eye health education and awareness. This campaign will focus on short-sightedness (myopia).

Eye Health Aotearoa and Roche NZ have released a new report highlighting major gaps in support for New Zealanders living with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) — a leading cause of vision loss. The report reveals limited awareness, barriers to treatment access, and a lack of coordinated care. It calls on Government to develop a National Eye Health Strategy, invest in public awareness and early detection, fund patient organisations, and improve collaboration across the health sector.
